Título: Corpos de barro: análise das estatuetas antropomorfas e antropozoomorfas das estearias sob a ótica da Fabricação do Corpo.
Autor: DINIZ, Rayana Cristina Araujo Campos

Abstract: The figurines from the Maranhão stilt villages are ceramic artifacts originating from the
archaeological sites of pre-colonial stilt settlements located in the anciet Baixada Maranhense
region. These settlements are characterized as lacustrine occupations built on wooden stilts —
the origin of their name — and date from the beginning of the Christian Era to approximately
1200 AD. The analyzed figurines are small-scale objects displaying characteristics analogous
to the bodily features of human beings (anthropomorphic) and hybrid beings
(anthropozoomorphic), blending human and animal elements, as well as other mystical,
supernatural, or fantastical beings. This research sought to study these artifacts as objects
endowed with agency and autonomy in their material basis, conceived, manufactured,
adorned, and understood as bodies. Thus, the study was grounded in the understanding that
ceramics constituted a means of visual and bodily expression for the peoples of the stilt
villages and that, just as human beings shape their bodies daily, individually or collectively,
through psychological, cultural, social, and aesthetic processes, imprinting upon them the
indelible marks of these experiences, the figurines were likewise produced with the intention
of reflecting this same logic of fabrication. Hence, the need to study them through the
category of “Body Making”. Furthermore, these artifacts are understood as being embedded
within the cultural and symbolic universe of Amazonian conceptions of the body, enabling
reflections on social dynamics, as well as on gender within these societies. The methodology
combined quantitative and qualitative approaches, employing the analysis of ceramic material
through digital cataloging forms specifically designed for this type of artifact, aiming to
identify morphological, stylistic, and technological elements. In addition, a bibliographical
review of the extensive specialized literature on Amazonian figurines, such as those from the
Santarém archaeological complexes and the Marajoara society, was conducted in order to
identify similarities and differences in ceramic production methods, as well as possible
dynamics of cultural exchange with the peoples of the stilt villages. This research is situated
within a transdisciplinary framework between Archaeology and History, defending the
premise that everything produced by human beings, whether a text or the act of shaping clay,
constitutes a legitimate historical source for understanding societies.

A inquisição portuguesa no Rio de Janeiro: o processo por judaísmo de Isabel da Silva (1710-1716)

Abstract: This dissertation examines the inquisitorial process brought against Isabel da Silva, a New
Christian woman from Rio de Janeiro accused of Judaism between 1710 and 1716, using it as
a key to understanding practices of repression, surveillance, and disciplining carried out by the
Inquisição Portuguesa in colonial Brazil. Anchored in the frameworks of Global and Connected
History, the investigation demonstrates how Isabel’s trajectory reveals the articulation between
gender, ethno-religious lineage, Atlantic circulations of knowledge, and colonial domination.
Based on critical analysis of the trial records preserved at the Arquivo Nacional da Torre do
Tombo, the study mobilizes contributions from microhistory, intersectionality, and women’s
social history to show how her position as a woman, a New Christian, and a property owner
intensified inquisitorial suspicion while allowing only limited margins of agency and
negotiation. The research highlights the centrality of domestic marranism and private ritual
practices as forms of transmitting religious memory and resistance, revealing the household
both as a site of vigilance and as a space of preservation. It also examines the legal and ritual
procedures of the Santo Ofício, emphasizing the institutional production of guilt, the
confessional performativity imposed on the accused, and the exemplary character of the
penalties, particularly property confiscation and the 1713 auto-da-fé. By reconstructing the
trajectory of Isabel da Silva, the dissertation broadens the understanding of women’s
experiences under the inquisitorial regime and their insertion within the wider dynamics of the
Portuguese Atlantic world.

Autor: BEZERRA, Paulo Henrique Silva

Abstract: This dissertation investigates the production of sexual morality in São Luís do Maranhão
between 1672 and 1682 through the trajectory of Francisco Coelho, who was accused of
sodomy and prosecuted by the Portuguese Inquisition. Situated within the field of Atlantic
History and Connections: Cultures and Powers, the study examines how behaviors considered
deviant were identified, classified, and transformed into objects of social surveillance within a
colonial context shaped by the frontier condition of Portuguese Amazonia. Methodologically
grounded in Microhistory and Connected History, while also engaging with the History of
Sexuality, the research employs a reduced scale of observation to analyze Francisco Coelho’s
individual experience and relate it to the Atlantic circulation of moral norms, practices, and
discourses linking São Luís and Lisbon within the Portuguese Empire. The primary
documentary corpus consists of Inquisitorial Trial no. 1717, preserved at the Portuguese
National Archive of Torre do Tombo, complemented by legal, ecclesiastical, and administrative
sources. The analysis demonstrates that the accusation of sodomy did not emerge from a single
event or from the exclusive action of inquisitorial institutions. Its consolidation resulted from
the circulation of rumors, memories, testimonies, and narratives shared by different social
groups, producing a form of public reputation capable of transforming suspicions into socially
recognized forms of moral classification. Within this context, categories such as “nefandous”,
“sodomite”, and tibiro functioned as instruments of moral and political classification, turning
attributed behaviors into recognizable and socially sanctioned identities. The study shows that
the intervention of the Holy Office constituted only one stage in a process that had already
developed within the everyday dynamics of colonial society. The dissertation further
demonstrates that the production of sexual morality was deeply connected to disputes involving
honor, reputation, authority, and local power. It also highlights the agency of the accused
himself, who mobilized documents, witnesses, and legal strategies in defense of his social
position. Although he was acquitted by the Inquisition, the closure of the proceedings did not
eliminate the ambiguities and uncertainties that permeate the documentary record, nor the social
mechanisms of suspicion that sustained the investigation. The study concludes that the
Amazonian frontier actively participated in the construction and reconfiguration of the moral
languages of the Portuguese world, functioning as a space of circulation, translation, and
negotiation of values. Through a microhistorical approach, Francisco Coelho’s trajectory
illuminates the mechanisms through which sexuality, public reputation, power, and social
control converged in the making of colonial order.

Título: As interfaces de uma história oficial: missionários pentecostais e o contexto socioeconômico em Belém do Pará (1893-1910)
Autor: PEREIRA, Suellem de Jesus

Abstract: I address the social and economic context at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th
centuries, when Swedish Pentecostal missionaries arrived in the capital of Pará (Belém) in
1911. I use the newspaper A República from the Republican Club (PA). The objective is to
show the other discursive and historical side of the arrival of the Pentecostal missionaries who
founded the Assemblies of God, and not only the narrative emphasized in the Official History of
the Assemblies of God. I do not intend to delegitimize or pass judgment on the official history,
but to bring to light the socioeconomic context in which the missionaries arrived upon
disembarking in Belém, Pará. I understand that the discourse of any religious institution is
constructed upon knowledge and understanding of the Official (original) History; that is, that
every religious institution originated in a given period of time (within a specific historical context,
endowed with external implications and influences), formalizing through biographies,
resolutions, books, etc., the history of its own religion, while making other narratives related to it
invisible. I use Michel Foucault's book *The Archaeology of Knowledge* (2008), which
formulated the term "utterance" as a formal and scientific form of knowledge, a legitimate and
regulatory knowledge that undergoes discursive changes throughout history. This allows for the
comparative capture of the singularities of a theme, influenced by external circumstances such
as the politics, economics, and religion of its time. This type of comparison is not aimed at
seeking the originality of the discourse, nor at revealing external influences, but rather at the
comparative analysis of the utterance (knowledge)—its regularities and particularities.
